Dr John F Arvier OAM is a male Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Specialist Oral Surgeon.

Dr John Arvier is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with 34 years experience. He practices from the Wesley Medical Centre and branches in Carindale and Sunnybank. Dr Arvier is a Visiting Medical Officer at Queensland Children’s Hospital, and is involved in training the next generation of surgeons in the Queensland region of the training program.

Dr Arvier completed his dental undergraduate training at the University of Queensland, with subsequent post-graduate surgical training at King’s College Hospital Medical School in London, and the Royal Adelaide Hospital & Adelaide University in South Australia. He has a special interest in maxillofacial trauma and is associated with several of the professional football codes in Brisbane. He is also a specialist member of the Medical Assessment Tribunal of Worksafe (Worker’s Compensation) Queensland.

Dr Arvier is a past president and federal councillor of the Queensland Branch of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS), and a former chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee of ANZAOMS. He has made 36 volunteer visits to Bangladesh, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea, and has helped establish formal training programs in these regions. He was the inaugural examiner in all 3 regions, and has also made three volunteer visits to Africa; firstly to Congo with AusHEAL, and then Ethiopia and Somaliland with Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA). Dr Arvier is also a long term member of Rotary, and has treated many patients brought to The Wesley Hospital for pro bono surgical procedures not available in their home countries.

Dr Arvier has achieved a BDSc (Qld), MSc (Oral Surgery) (London), and MDS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) (Adelaide), and is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI), and the International College of Dentists (FICD). He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for Services to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006.
