Dr Gary R Hoffman is a male Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Specialist Oral Surgeon.
Prof. Dr Hoffman completed both his medical and dental qualifications at the University of Queensland.
He undertook two years of vocational (dental) practice, a year of Oral Pathology, successfully passed part 1 – part 2 FRACDS and then completed four years full time ANZAOMS accredited specialty training in OMF surgery (1985 – 1988, Royal Brisbane and Princess Alexandra Hospitals). He gained a further three years of post-graduate targeted tutelage (under Dr Frank Moloney) in orthognathic surgery and temporomandibular joint surgery (1989 – 1991).
Having achieved specialist recognition as an OMF surgeon he unilaterally returned to further study and completed his medical degree (1996), followed by the mandatory full time registration (intern) year (1997) and a second full time year (PGY2, 1998) as a basic surgical trainee (RACS) at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. This included three month rotations in neuro surgery, vascular surgery, ear-nose-throat surgery and plastic surgery. He also achieved MMedSc (Surgery), PhD (Surgery), and MD (Head-Neck Surgery).
Desirous of further targeted training he then undertook (via competitive interview) four full time years accredited training (RCS) in the United Kingdom in recognized maxillofacial units in London, Leicester, Portsmouth-Southampton, Coventry-Warwick. This furthered his OMF skills generally, but most specifically in the area of Head and Neck surgery. During that time, he also completed surgical rotations in Basel (Switzerland) and Baltimore (Maryland, USA).
He is currently a Senior VMO in OMF surgery at the John Hunter Hospital.
