Dr David G Sykes is a male Specialist Prosthodontist.
I was educated at Bedford School, UK and gained BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from University London in 1975. I worked as house officer and senior house officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Birmingham Dental School and Ipswich Hospital and then in general dental practice in London.
I moved to Australia in 1980 and worked as dental officer at Brisbane Dental Hospital then Registrar and Senior Registrar (Prosthodontics) at Westmead Clinical Dental Hospital 1981-1986. I gained MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) from the University of Sydney during this time and Fellowship in General Dental Practice from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. I was listed at a Specialist Prosthodontist in 1990 and have been in private prosthodontic practice in Sydney since 1986 with a particular interest in implant dentistry and treating the complex restorative case.
I am a Senior Clinical Associate at the University of Sydney involved in the postgraduate prosthodontic programme and the Diploma in Oral Implantology. I have lectured in the area of restorative dentistry and prosthodontics with a special interest in implants and medico-legal issues.
I served on the Council of the Australian Dental Association (NSW Branch) and was Branch President in 1992. I was, until 2010, an elected member of the Dental Board of New South Wales and was on the Advisory Panel for Dental Protection Ltd. I also served on the Council of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and was President from 2014 to 2016.
I was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2018 for Services to Dentistry.
